Air Quality

Air Quality Studies and Atmospheric Impact Assessment

We assess atmospheric impact from transport infrastructure — roads, rail, airports and ports — monitoring and modeling a full range of regulated pollutants. Our air quality studies support environmental approvals, infrastructure planning and compliance monitoring in accordance with EU and Romanian air quality legislation.

Pollutants Assessed

  • Nitrogen oxides: NO, NO₂, NOₓ
  • Particulate matter: PM₁₀, PM₂.₅
  • Other pollutants: SO₂, CO, O₃, benzene, VOCs
  • Carbon dioxide (CO₂) and greenhouse gas assessments

Air Quality Impact Assessment

  • Atmospheric dispersion modeling for transport infrastructure
  • Air quality impact assessment for new road and motorway projects
  • Assessment of changes to air quality from traffic management measures
  • Cumulative impact assessment
  • Compliance assessment against EU and Romanian air quality standards
  • Identification of air quality sensitive zones

Air Quality Monitoring

  • Mobile air quality monitoring campaigns at transport nodes
  • Real-time monitoring using HORIBA equipment
  • Correlation of pollution concentrations with traffic flows and meteorological conditions
  • Comparative monitoring campaigns

Air Quality Mapping

  • Atmospheric pollution mapping and spatial visualization
  • Interactive pollutant maps and dashboards
  • Integration with traffic flow models for scenario testing

Documentation and Environmental Support

  • Air quality chapters for Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA)
  • Reports for environmental permitting
  • Pollution reduction measure recommendations
  • Integration with noise and other environmental assessments

Impact Assessment Activities

Each air quality study follows a rigorous sequence of activities, from identifying pollution sources through to providing the information required for environmental permitting procedures.

  • Identifying pollution sources generated by the project
  • Analyzing existing environmental conditions in the study area
  • Estimating emissions generated by traffic and economic activities
  • Establishing relevant analysis points and sensitive zones
  • Evaluating pollutant dispersion in the atmosphere
  • Analyzing impact on population, public health and quality of life
  • Assessing noise and vibrations associated with traffic
  • Proposing measures for reduction, prevention or compensation of impact
  • Providing information for environmental permitting procedures

In-Situ Measurements

We perform in-situ immission measurements, both long and short-term, as required for investments and technical, urban planning and financing documentation. Monitoring campaigns are planned according to project specifics, meteorological conditions and environmental authority requirements.
