Noise Studies

Noise Studies and Acoustic Impact Assessment

We conduct road, rail and aviation noise studies including noise mapping, field measurements, acoustic impact assessment and mitigation recommendations. Our acoustic studies support environmental approvals, infrastructure design and strategic noise action planning in compliance with EU Directive 2002/49/EC and Romanian legislation.

Noise Studies and Impact Assessment

  • Road traffic noise studies for new and existing infrastructure
  • Railway and tram line noise assessment
  • Aviation noise impact evaluation
  • Cumulative noise impact assessment for multiple sources
  • Noise impact from proposed developments on existing sensitive receptors
  • Compliance assessment against national and European legislation

Noise Mapping

  • Strategic noise maps (Directive 2002/49/EC) for major road and rail networks
  • Local noise maps for project-specific assessments
  • Noise modeling using LimA software
  • Identification of sensitive areas (residential, schools, hospitals, parks)
  • Noise exposure maps showing Lden and Lnight indicators

Field Measurements

  • In-situ noise measurements at sensitive receptor locations
  • Traffic noise source measurements
  • Measurement campaigns for model calibration and validation

Mitigation Measures

  • Noise barrier design and performance evaluation
  • Low-noise road surface assessment
  • Speed management as a noise reduction measure
  • Building insulation requirements assessment
  • Evaluation of mitigation measure effectiveness

Documentation and Approvals

  • Acoustic impact assessment reports for environmental approvals
  • Noise chapters for Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) studies
  • Noise action plans
  • Support for environmental permitting processes

Professional Measurement Equipment

We use the Brüel & Kjær 2245 sound level meter — a Class 1 reference instrument in environmental acoustics — together with SoundPlan simulation software for strategic noise mapping. This combination ensures precision in field measurements and accuracy in three-dimensional noise propagation modeling.

We produce complete strategic noise maps in accordance with EU Directive 49/2002 (Directive 2002/49/EC) on the assessment and management of environmental noise, transposed into Romanian legislation through Government Decision 321/2005.
